Sport Tours Announces WBI Tipoff Classic

Sport Tours International, Inc., the worldwide leader in organizing college basketball tournaments, has officially announced its newest venture-the WBI Tipoff Classic. The event, which will debut in 2011, will feature eight women’s Division I basketball teams in STI’s first Multiple Team Event (MTE).

The WBI Tipoff Classic is set to take place Nov. 12-14, 2011, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The MTE, which allows Division I teams to play three games on one neutral site location, will only count as two games on each teams schedule. Each Division I school can play in a specific MTE once every four years and the WBI Tipoff Classic can feature just one team per conference affiliation.

“We know there is a market for a neutral-site MTE on the women’s side,” said Emily Bauer the WBI Executive Director. “Teams are always looking for a chance to get fair, competitive games at a nice location. Sport Tours specializes in organizing tournaments so the WBI Tipoff Classic makes a lot of sense.”

The Ocean Center is a modern, 5,000 seat arena along Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach. The Center is directly across the street from the ocean and the Daytona Beach Hilton which will serve as the tournament hotel headquarters. Daytona Beach also has an international airport and is just one hour from the Orlando International Airport.

Sport Tours International hosts three different women’s D1 events in 2010 with the Cancun Thanksgiving Classic, Bahamas Sunsplash Shootout and Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic. STI also will organize the second annual WBI Postseason Event in March.
