Sport Tours Announces The 2021 Women’s Basketball Invitational Bracket

The 11th version of the Women’s Basketball Invitational, hosted by Sport Tours International, has a new twist in 2021 as the event will feature eight teams in one location over three days. The tournament will feature a traditional eight-team bracketed format with four games each on Friday, Mar. 19, Saturday, Mar. 20 and Sunday, Mar. 21.

The William Exum Center on the campus of Kentucky State University in Frankfort, KY will serve as the host venue for the 2021 WBI. In a deviation from past WBI’s where all games were played at host sites, this year’s version of the WBI will play all at one location for safety reasons due to the ongoing COVID pandemic.

The 2021 WBI will tipoff at Noon (EDT) on Mar. 20 as Cleveland State University will face Manhattan College. The Vikings of Cleveland State compete in the Horizon League and will bring an 11-9 record to Kentucky while the Manhattan Jaspers finished second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a 10-3 league mark and 10-7 record overall.

The second game of the day features Loyola University (Chicago) and Longwood University. Loyola, of the Missouri Valley Conference, will be making the first postseason appearance in women’s basketball history. The Lancers of Longwood finished third in the Big South with a 12-6 league record and an 14-11 regular season finish.  The Loyola-Longwood game is set to begin at 2:30 pm.

In the day’s first game of the evening session the University of Portland will play Abilene Christian University in a 5 pm tilt. The Pilots finished tied for 4th in the West Coast Conference and will bring a 12-11 record to Kentucky. Abilene Christian competes in the Southland Conference and finished the regular season 14-10.

The final matchup in the first round will feature Florida International University and Northern Arizona University. The Panthers of FIU finished the Conference USA season 8-8 and 13-12 overall while the Big Sky representative NAU will travel to Kentucky with a 13-12 mark.

On Saturday the winners will advance to face each other in the second round while the losing teams will advance to the consolation bracket. Saturday games start at noon and the final round games on Sunday will also tip at noon.
